Living independently was one of the goals identified by Adam in the planning process. Achieving this seemed overwhelming, but as the major goal was broken down into smaller goals it morphed into something achievable.
With the help of family and friends (his circle), Adam was able to take the necessary steps toward independence – learning new skills, orienting to a new neighbourhood, building new relationships, taking on more responsibilities.
Today he rents his own home and, with support, leads a meaningful and contributory life as a full citizen in his chosen community.
A much-loved destination is the community garden where he volunteers once a week. He enjoys being able to work outdoors, grow his own produce and of course the delicious morning teas.
Careful planning has gone into crafting a lifestyle that is meaningful, contributory and fun.
